Why this petition matters

In the spirit of Patrice Emery Lumumba, Congo's first democratically elected Prime Minister, join the Congolese and people of goodwill throughout the globe in calling for the Congolese people's votes to be counted and will to be respected.

The Democratic Republic of Congo held elections on Sunday, December 30th after a two-year delay because outgoing President, Joseph Kabila tried to hold on to power. Due to the resistance and sacrifice of the Congolese people, Kabila was forced to organize elections.

The Congolese people have a deep desire for change from the 17-year rule of Joseph Kabila and his predatory regime. Preliminary results from the elections indicate that the votes were not properly counted and in some instances not counted at all by Congo's National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI).

The demand from the Congolese people is that their votes be counted and that their voices be respected. Join us in calling on African leaders to assure that the Congolese people's votes be counted. The Southern African Development Community (SADC), after much hesitation has come around to this understanding. Now it is time for the rest of Africa and the world to join in this call.
