I recently learnt the history of Venice, CA, and I think it is absolutely ridiculous that a rich white family wants to come and tear down this piece of heritage - the community here deserves nothing less than to be supported and cared for by the wider Los Angeles community!

A church of such historic significance to the community should be saved.

I'm signing because this church has been and should remain a community serving space.

I believe there is a lack of historical landmarks in honor of Black positive history. Most historical properties are related to slavery connected to plantations and white historical landmarks. This church is a symbol of ownership, community and positivity in an oppressed community. Let’s make a change in the way we conserve American history and start including black history in it. Let’s start now and here in Venice.

First Baptist Church is more than a historic landmark. It is a cultural landmark and living cultural center -- of the last remaining emblems of a once-thriving African American community that made Venice Beach, literally, what it is today. First Baptist Church will be saved.
