Amend the Village of Corinth annual budget to include a dedicated village Sheriff patrol.

The mayor and majority of the board for the Village of Corinth recently voted to eliminate the special protection contract with the Sheriffs department for the Village. Representatives from the ambulance squad and the fire department, the CEO of Hudson River Credit Union who have a branch and headquarters here, a representative from Brookfield Power, the largest taxpayer for the Village, and a representative for Saratoga National Bank, all made impassioned pleas to continue our contract to have an officer on patrol just for the village most of the time. Otherwise there will be only an area patrol that covers the northern section of the county. Of major concern was response time. There was no data offered on current response time vs projected response time with this change. This is additionally concerning because it affects ambulance response time, when law enforcement needs to arrive first to secure an area for EMS to render aid. Also concerning are problems with drugs and increased criminal activity, possible increased motor vehicle accidents and violations, and much more.  The board heard all of the community input, and the meeting concluded with one member making a motion to keep the contract which was was shot down by the rest of the board. They then voted in the budget as written, completely ignoring the unanimous requests from the community to keep the sheriff patrol for the village. This was all for a savings of less than $200 per year for each household, in the form of a property tax rebate many residents have received in a December for the past several years. The mayor said that we wouldn't get that rebate if we keep the patrol and he wants people to continue to receive it.

There will be another meeting of the village board May 3rd. We as a village need to make our voices heard and request an amendment to the budget to include the special protection contract by the sheriff. Please support this petition by signing.
