Save Alpine Field from development

This petition has been organized by a group of concerned residents in the Alpine Neighborhood of Lake Mohawk in Sparta, NJ.  Alpine Field is located between 105 and 107 Summit Rd. in Lake Mohawk New Jersey. The community does not want to see Alpine Field sold and developed. So,  we need your help!

After speaking with many Lake Mohawk community members we found out that Alpine Field was once used as a baseball/kickball/wiffleball/soccer field, a place for children to go sleigh-riding, a place for camping, picnics, local meet-ups, a playground, etc. Alpine Field was a four season outdoor area that was used for social and recreational activity for decades in Lake Mohawk, which benefited community members of all ages.

Many community members would love to keep the field as is: a beautiful natural habitat for vegetation and wildlife; however, the field can also be utilized to benefit and enhance our community. One goal for Alpine Field will be a Community Garden, which will be available for all LMCC members to participate in. Many residents have expressed an interest in this, due to the difficulty with growing vegetable gardens because of the deer and other wildlife in our community. The field is large enough to accommodate a section devoted to gardening; that can be protected from animals with a large secure fence and then have raised plots created within which interested members can have access to and raise vegetables, etc. Seedsforchange.org, an organization that is successful in creating and assisting Community Gardens, notes the benefits of Community Gardens: “Community gardening provides volunteer opportunities, a sense of pride in ownership and stewardship within the community. A Community Garden can become a social focal point while optimizing, restoring and beautifying underutilized common space. Ultimately, a Community Garden can enable current generations to appreciate and restore their surroundings, empowering future generations to meet their own needs, in a thriving environment.” As stated, the educational, health, environmental, and societal benefits of a Community Garden are endless.

The larger remaining area of Alpine field will also be used for recreational activities like softball, whiffle ball, and many other potential opportunities.

Please sign the petition to save this beautiful field from development.
