Barbara Liebenberg started this petition to General Manager (Ku-ring-gai Council)

There is currently a substantial backlog of requests for the construction of footpaths within the Ku-ring-gai area.  This petition is to highlight local concern and interest in having a footpath constructed along Abingdon Road, Roseville between Eton and Shirley Roads, furthermore requesting that Council prioritise this in its Capital Works program.

The demography of the western side of Lindfield/Roseville has changed significantly over the last few years, with the opening of the Lindfield Learning Village, development and continued growth of the Crimson Hill Estate, and the popularity of the sporting facilities at Charles Bean Oval.  There has been a substantial increase in both motor and foot traffic along Abingdon Road, which is one of two feeder roads to this area.

Abingdon Road is both narrow and windy, with cars parked on either side.  These facts have created an unsuitable environment for pedestrians.  The choice for people on foot is to share the road with cars, buses and commercial vehicles or to use the nature strip.  Walking on the road is dangerous, with several blind spots where visibility is extremely poor due to the terrain, parked cars and  the speed of vehicles, creating a pedestrian hazard.  With regards to the nature strip; on the northern side of the road it cannot currently be used because of the steepness of the land, and on the southern side it is uneven, sloping and narrow due to trees and vegetation.

We need to have a footpath built along this piece of road in order to protect pedestrians and to keep people away from cars on what is a narrow and blind piece of road.   The intent of this petition is to raise the urgency of this project, to look at a completion date within the next 12 - 18 months rather than being put to the back of the list of capital works, and looking at a minimum 10 year waiting time.
