Climate change is one of, if not the, biggest problem facing the world today and influences every corner of the globe. Buildings contribute to a lot of the pollution and emissions that have led to the current climate crises. However, there are multiple ways to help reduce these emissions and help to save energy. One important way to do so is to install green walls and green roofs.

Getting green roofs put on buildings means cleaner air for not just the building involved but for the entire community. The more green roofs and walls there are, the greater the benefit. Despite this, in Ontario, most cities don't have many buildings with green roofs or green walls if any at all. This includes Guelph which, though the city has lots of greenery, only has one building that actually has a green wall or roof.

The reason this is so important is that if we can get more green roofs and walls installed in Guelph, it will be a very important step to potentially growing green infrastructure in more cities in the province and even perhaps the entire country. Getting Guelph to adopt more green infrastructure in this way will in turn help to transition to an even more planet friendly way of living for Guelph. In short, this action could result in benefitting not just the people who live in Guelph but those who live in other cities, provinces or even countries that are able to promote more green walls and green roofs to be built.
