Traffic calming measures at Lenester Ave. and Iroquois Rd.
Traffic calming measures at Lenester Ave. and Iroquois Rd.
Purpose:
As per the City of Ottawa's Traffic Management Options, this petition aims to request an assessment for a Traffic Management Study to determine appropriate traffic management measures for the intersection of Iroquois Road and Lenester Avenue.
Background:
I have lived in Glabar Park in Ward 7, for the past five years with my family and I have noticed an increase in traffic at the above stated intersection. This increase of traffic, paired with speeding and inappropriate driver behaviour raises concerns for pedestrian, cyclist, as well as motor vehicle safety. This neighbourhood is surrounded by several main arteries such as Carling Ave., Maitland Rd. and Woodroffe Ave., and therefore, during peak hours, has increased volumes of traffic.
I have witnessed drivers failing to stop at the four-way stop, and have on numerous occasions been a pedestrian walking across the street when a vehicle failed to stop, and almost collided stopping half way through the intersection.
This is an ongoing concern in this residential neighbourhood. This intersection is also 650 m. from D. Roy Kennedy Public School, and is populated with several young families and senior residents.
