Equity in Condo and HOA Rules and Regulations
Why this petition matters
We have many people in the state of Maryland who are living under restrictive and oppressive board of directors who are using governing documents in a punitive fashion. Some residents have lost their homes because of special assessments that are more than their regular fees, elections to the boards have been blocked so that some residents can not serve, other residents have had liens placed against their property as a punitive measure for speaking out, residents living on fixed incomes were not given opportunities to select the best method of payment by a community vote. The governing documents in these communities have not been updated to today's standards of living. The state of Maryland has no review or monitoring in place to review these documents. The Attorney Generals Office is so understaffed that your complaint may take months to be read and reviewed. The financial chaos that has occurred has created frustration, anxiety and depression for many residents. Federal agencies are not involved in the counties to protect homeowners. They have lost their constitutional rights to documents created by developers of these communities. Everyday people have not had the proper training.
