A conditional use permit has been requested to put at 40,000+ square foot storage unit facility in a residentially zoned area at the end of Daisy St., an off shoot of Main St.  This type of permit authorizes a property owner to use the property in a way that would otherwise not be allowed under the zoning ordinance. My neighbors and I are opposed to the issuance of this permit due to the increase of traffic, light pollution, noise, and potential crime this could bring.  Property values would decrease and our peaceful nook of the island that we value so much will be destroyed.  

This is an issue not just for my neighborhood, but the whole island.  If this variance is granted, it sets the precedent that zoning codes do not matter.  Anyone could attempt to put any business anywhere on the island, right in the middle of your neighborhood.  We are asking the planning committee and the Chincoteague Town Council to deny this permit and uphold the current zoning code.
