Why this petition matters

Note: the information below is an explanation of the complaint. A PHYSICAL RPP Request from City Hall with signatures of 60% of residents is required to move forward. I plan to set up a table at the corner of 3801 33rd Street on Saturday 9/19 and Saturday Wednesday 9/23 from 5pm - 7pm (weather pending). PLEASE stop by to sign the physical RPP (residential parking permit) request. Let's continue the dialogue!

During the covid-19 pandemic, parking meters have been posted on Perry Street and 33rd Street in Mount Rainier, MD. Not only are there homeowners on these blocks, there are 2 apartment buildings (3801 33rd Street and the Singer Flats) which house more than 24 units/renters who rely on parking at 33rd and Perry Street. Our neighbors who reside around City Hall (on and around 37th and Perry) have had designated residential parking for years. They also have driveways and no immediate surrounding commercial businesses. With the new restaurant and businesses opening, how will we stop patrons, visitors, and bus riders from bypassing the meters and taking the only parking available to us? The answer is residential parking.

The residents (of Perry Street between 32nd and 34th Streets, and of 33rd Street between Perry and Bunker Hill Streets) petition the Mayor and City Council to:

1. Designate 33rd Street between Perry Street and Bunker Hill Street as reserved parking for residents (approximately 30 medium sized vehicles).

2. Designate Perry Street between 33rd Street and 32nd Street as reserved parking for residents (approximately 20 medium sized vehicles).

3. Restrict parking by other vehicles at all times, unless a visitor permit is obtained and displayed.

4. Provide one permit FREE OF CHARGE for each household at 33rd and Perry Streets. This includes residents of the aforementioned designated areas and the side street (Perry Street between 33rd and 34th) ONLY. **Currently the city charges for residential parking permits**

5. Allow *residents* to obtain temporary visitor permits (FREE) at the Mount Rainier police station. **Currently the city charges for visitor passes**
