Ashley Rider started this petition to Residents at the Marston

Many of us chose to live in the Marston because of the wonderful amenities. We have not had access to these amenities for many months due to COVID-19 precautions. One of the few remaining perks of living in this expensive apartment building is access to free charging for electric vehicles. On 12/3, the Marston representatives sent an email boldly claiming ("You spoke and we listened!") that the residents asked to start paying to use the public charging stations and also to pay a costly $200 per month to reserve a charging space. Not only does this negate one of the last amenities available to residents, but it also makes the remaining spots less accessible by generating more competition for them. As it currently stands, the residents are quite respectful in charging for only the amount of time that is necessary and moving their vehicle so that other residents can charge their vehicle. It is clear that this is an attempt to increase revenue for the Marston and is not, in fact, in the best interest of residents.

This petition is to demonstrate that these changes to the EV charging stations are not the wishes of the residents. Please sign below to indicate your preference to maintain FREE charging for electric vehicles owned by residents and to keep the spaces on B1 open for use instead of requiring a $200 monthly fee to reserve a space.

Respectfully,

A concerned resident

As a reference, here is the email from the Marston:

"You spoke and we listened! In an effort to adapt to the diverse EV charging needs of our residents, we are implementing the following changes:

1.)  Beginning today, the pricing structure has been changed throughout all of the EV charging stations. The ports on the B1 level of the parking garage will now charge $0.15/kWh. The public stations on the ground floor will now charge $0.35/kWh, plus $1/hr for the first 4 hours and $3/hr after 4 hours.

2.)  Beginning Monday, 12/14/20, the EV spaces and corresponding charging ports on the B1 level will be available to rent for $200/month. If you are interested in reserving one of these spaces, please let us know no later than Thursday, 12/10/20. If the demand exceeds the number of stations available, residents will be randomly selected and awarded the spaces. The public access chargers on the ground floor will remain first-come-first-serve, but unauthorized vehicles parked in a reserved EV space on or after 12/14/20 will be subject to tow."
