Stop State Street from Becoming a One Lane Traffic Jam

The City of Boston’s Reimagine State Street Project has installed a temporary street design that is testing changes including one traffic lane instead of two and a dedicated bicycle lane.  State Street, the primary roadway going west from the waterfront, experiences heavy traffic volumes that cannot be accommodated by one traffic lane.

We support the Wharf District Council’s proposed plan that includes two traffic lanes, ensuring that State Street continues to provide adequate space for westbound traffic and emergency vehicles.  No area roads, including State Street, can accommodate pre-COVID westbound traffic volumes if State Street is reduced to one lane.  Furthermore, post-COVID traffic impact must be studied and considered before design changes are made for the Project.
