Why this petition matters

Started by Mahak Rathore

Dear Her Majesty Queen Maxima and His Majesty King Willem Alexander,

I hope you are doing well and safe.

As a child, you see your parents as these invincible adults who work hard to protect us and take care of us. They are these angels who make sure all our needs are attended to and we are always loved. Parents desire to live with their children. Hence on basic humanitarian grounds kindly provide the same Netherlands residence permit also to parents from Non-EU countries.

Visa status uncertainty for parents in The Netherlands is detrimental to the well-being of the affected families and their work situation. Many full-time working families rely on help from the older generation to raise young children.

THE WHY Part?

It is evident that many individuals who are unable to unite with family during COVID Pandemic are suffering from tremendous mental health pressure. Unable to spend time with parents, missing opportunity to experience grandchildren's growth and emotional bond, increased pressure on work/life balance from lack of help from parents. While sympathizing with many un-united families, we urge the Immigration and the Government of The Netherlands to consider Family Reunification or Introduce a separate Visa for Parents so that they can get the same status as their child in The Netherlands and EU or other visa options for those parents in The Netherlands to stay longer period.

The Schengen visas are also not helpful as it only allows the visa holder to stay for a maximum of 3 months. It becomes more difficult as us and parents to go through the process each time as they depend on their children. Being away from the children is the hardest part for any parent who is dependent on their children.

Currently, the parents of adults are not part of the core family unit similar to Partners/Dependent Visa. We enter this world through our parents; Isn’t it rudeness/incorrectness to disregard parents from the core family unit, when they are the basic foundation of our existence.

Fortunately, there are immigrant families that still have parents around with temporary Schengen Visa for 3 months in The Netherlands. Due to current legislation in the Netherlands, Non-EU parents are allowed to come and stay with their children in the Netherlands for a maximum of 90 Days. Parents are not granted the right to a residence permit as per Netherlands Immigration’s current Legislation.

REQUEST !!!

On behalf of all the EU children who are in favor of this in The Netherlands who desire to live with their parents, I would request you to include Non-EU parents also in the core family unit and provide them the right to unify with their Children by providing residence permit or same status as Resident Permit holder.

"We are putting an effort toward CHANGE and request His Majesty King Willem- Alexander and Her Majesty- Queen Maxima of the Netherlands to provide permanent residence to Non-EU Parents of Netherlands Citizens by signing this Petition."

Looking for a positive response to this.

A FRESH START TO A NEW CHANGE!

Regards,

Mahak Rathore
