It's a problem staring everyone in the face and threatening families and local industry in the most brazen manner - the unaccountable and extortionate cartel behaviour of the Australian East Coast gas producers.

The deceit, tax evasion, and contempt the cartel holds Australia in have gone on long enough. To catalogue just two of the more egregious lies, the vast majority of the gas, as high as 71%, goes not to our allies but an increasingly belligerent and hostile regional power, often at a lower price than where it's being pumped out of the ground. Likewise, the collapse in prices following the release of the ACCC report into their appalling behaviour. It was nothing but their usual modus operandi - extort the country making them billions of dollars and cynically lie and manipulate prices when their appalling conduct is called out.

The net effect is incredible stress placed on Australian families at the worst of times and bankrupting industry that we desperately need. Likewise, chasing the energy price spirals helping drive inflation will force the RBA to keep raising rates and crash our economy. To no avail.

Consecutive federal governments have been too tepid in pursuing this issue. Whether captured or too cautious is hard to say but enough is enough.

Sign this petition and send a message to Canberra. That we won't be held hostage by big multinational corporations, that we won't have our lives destroyed for a few billion more. Demand that our Prime Minister stand up for us, local industry and our sovereignty.

The alternative is to excuse exactly the sort of contemptible behaviour that will guarantee an economic crisis of a scale never before seen in this country and ensure our transition to net zero never gets off the ground.
