Rerelease Pokémon Movies in Theatres
Why this petition matters
On November 6th, 1999 cinema was changed forever with the release of “Pokémon: The First Movie”. Also known as “Pokémon: MewTwo Strikes Back”, this film was the culmination of a phenomenon known as PokeMania - a multifaceted addiction to the wonderful world of Pokémon.
For five years, Pokémon films enjoyed theatrical releases, until 2004 when they become direct to DVD specials. Still, these five films hold a special place in many Pokémon fans hearts - both old and new alike.
I believe that it would be in the Pokémon Company’s best interest to re-release these early Pokémon films into theatres across the states. There are many successful examples of companies doing limited engagements of beloved films (such as FathomEvents Ghiblifest) and I believe it is a missed opportunity to not have a similar festival.
For old fans, this would be the exact thing needed to appeal to their nostalgia, and for new fans it means finally seeing these movies, potentially for the first time, with all the splendor they deserve.
My goal is to get enough people to sign this petition to show the Pokémon Company it would be profitable to support such a festival and encourage them to explore the option of rereleasing these films. I recognize there might be Copyright issues, but I believe that with enough fan support they can find a way to please both fans and corporations alike.
With the recent release of “Pokémon Puzzle Adventure” to the Nintendo Switch, and the 20th anniversary movie packs, I believe this would be the perfect way to celebrate Pokemon’s next anniversary.
