Petition Request for the City of Raleigh Capital Area Greenway System: To provide Neuse Crossing Home Owners & surrounding Sub-divisions with direct access to the Neuse River Pedestrian Bridge via Neuse Crossing Trail.

Neuse Crossings home owners have waited with great anticipation for the completion and grand opening of the Neuse River Greenway located just off of the Louisburg Rd, Mitchell Mill Rd, and Ligon Mill Rd intersection. Many home owners assumed the community’s own Neuse Crossing Trail, located on the north side of the Neuse River would provide direct access to the Neuse River Pedestrian Bridge. Currently, the closest Neuse River Pedestrian Bridge access point for Neuse Crossing residents is located off of Horseshoe Farm Rd.

What this means for Neuse Crossing homeowners, who by default have enjoyed convenient access to the Neuse River (by simply walking to the Neuse Crossing Trail from within their community)… Now residents are forced to load up their bikes, jump in their vehicles, and drive over to Horseshoe Farm Rd, which is approximately 1.5 - 3 miles away. Some Neuse Crossing and surrounding (sub-division) residents are even riding their bikes along the busy Louisburg Rd, Mitchell Mill Rd, and Ligon Mill Rd intersection to gain access to the Neuse River Pedestrian Bridge, which now provides access to the Neuse River Trail located on the opposite side of the river.

Problem: Neuse Crossing Residents used to be able to walk the Neuse Crossing Trail, (on the north side of the Neuse River), to Horseshoe Farm Rd. Not anymore! Now the trail comes to an end just before it reaches the greenway pedestrian bridge. What separates our community from the greenway pedestrian Bridge is a rock barrier, and back water channel approximately 8 -10 feet wide. And both prevent pedestrian traffic from gaining access via Neuse Crossing Trail.

Why Neuse Crossing and surrounding communities are requesting access to the Greenway Pedestrian Bridge via the Neuse Crossing Trail?

• It provides more convenient access to the pedestrian bridge for Neuse Crossing and surrounding sub-division residents.

• It’s safer than having Neuse Crossing residents and their families ride bikes along the busy Louisburg, Mitchell Mill, and Ligon Mill Road intersections to gain access to the Neuse River Pedestrian Bridge.

• It will help to reduce the number of vehicles traveling to and parking at the Horseshoe Farm Rd access point.

We propose:
We the Neuse Crossing Homeowners and surrounding communities would like to have the Neuse Crossing Trail opened (I.e. remove the rocks currently blocking the trail) and have a small bridge/ramp installed to provide us with direct access to the pedestrian bridge.  We would like to have this accomplished by the grand opening date of April 25, 2013.   The Neuse Crossing and surrounding communities would like to thank the City of Raleigh/ Capital Area Greenway System in advance for accommodating our request.

The following signatures represent Neuse Crossing and surrounding sub-division homeowners/residents who are in support of this proposal.

Thanks,
Derek Bradley
