Why this petition matters
Dawes Community - Mobile, AL
This petition is to request a traffic light to be installed at the intersection of McFarland Road & Johnson Road, S.
A two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 4:50 p.m. on Saturday, 01/07/2023 claimed the life of a Mobile man, according to authorities.
Police said a 50 year old man was driving his Ford Focus when a Ford F-250 driven by a 41 year old man, struck the 50 year old man’s vehicle in the rear.
After the initial collision, both vehicles left the road and struck a fence where the man in the Ford Focus was pronounced dead on the scene.
There are 4-way stop signs at this intersection and 4 solar-powered flashing red lights. At times, the visibility of the stop signs and the flashing lights is low due to weather conditions and/or overhanging trees.
At least every month I have been stopped at this intersection and witnessed drivers ignore the stop signs and flashing lights (if they are even working), and drive right through intersection without stopping (usually at a high rate of speed). It’s as if the drivers are playing “chicken” or Russian roulette.
The installation of a traffic light at the intersection of McFarland Rd & Johnson Rd, S would greatly improve the safety of the Dawes Community & their families - Mobile, AL
