We would like to share with you the current situation of the Master's students awarded the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship and also we have the intention of being able to reach an agreement or solution to our problems.

Due to the increasing inflation present in Hungary at present, which has been positioned at around 8% in the last month, the money provided by the scholarship is insufficient to cover basic expenses.

Inflation has been increasing over the years but was especially noticeable in the last year.

The last increase in the value of the scholarship was in 2019 when it went from 40,460 Ft to 43,700 Ft. This represents 8%, appropriate to cover the accumulated inflation of that moment.

Currently, with inflation almost double, our purchasing power has been considerably reduced. Despite knowing that the stipend is a collaboration with our studies, we want to let you know that many of us are forced to look for a job position to earn extra money to survive, leading to neglect of the studies for which we came to this country.

It should be noted that it is also very difficult to get a job, so not all of us can use that source of income, either because of the language barrier or because of the incompatibility of schedules due to our studies, something completely logical because we are full-time students.

It should be noted that the expenses are very variable depending on the city where you live, so it is very difficult to adapt, you also have to consider that in many cases the universities do not have a student residence, or the quotas are very few, so students do not have another option than renting an apartment, and even when sharing with other students, the money provided for housing is insufficient.

We would like the stipend to be sufficient to be able to cover all expenses and to be able to dedicate ourselves exclusively to studies, which would be of great help since many of us, added to the economic reality of Hungary, come from underdeveloped countries, where asking for monetary help from our families is unfeasible since the international values ​​of the currency are highly devalued.

Due to all of the above, we would like to request an increase in the stipend to be able to pay our expenses since for the reasons mentioned we do not have the means to cover them in another way.
