DON'T ASK DONT TELL - It's Over!
"Dont Ask, Don't Tell" has been repealed and same-sex marriage is LEGAL in multiple states around the USA. In September 2011 the Department of Defense indicated that military chaplain would be permitted to officiate same-sex marriages in military facilities if they wished to. Now Republicans in Congress want to end that possibility by tacking the following provision into the National Defense Authorization Act: "military bases may not be used to officiate, solemnize, a marriage, or marriage like ceremony that is not between a man and a woman."
PENTAGON GUIDANCE ON SAME-SEX WEDDINGS IN MILITARY FACILITIES
The Sept. 30 2011 guidelines provided by the Pentagon are:
"A military chaplain may participate in or officiate any private ceremony, whether on or off a military installation, provided that the ceremony is not prohibited by applicable state and local law. Further, a chaplain is not required to participate in or officiate a private ceremony if doing so would be in variance with the tenets of his or her religion or personal beliefs. Finally, a military chaplain's participation in a private ceremony does not constitute an endorsement of the ceremony by Department of Defense."
REPUBLICANS: STOP DISCRIMINATING AGAINST LGBT SERVICE MEN & WOMEN
Please sign this petition to tell Republicans in Congress to STOP discriminating against American LGBT service men and women. These people SERVE OUR NATION and they DESERVE OUR RESPECT. If they reside in a state where same-sex marriage is legal, they should be allowed to MARRY in a military facility if they wish to.
