On July 1st, student loan rates are set to double for millions of Americans from 3.4% to 6.8%.
As President Obama said in his State of the Union address, "skyrocketing costs price too many young people out of a higher education or saddle them with unsustainable debt." This is simply unacceptable.
The Republicans' student loan plan would raise rates on low- and middle-income students—the very students who need the most help. That's why President Obama has threatened to veto their bill. We need to act quickly to get President Obama's plan passed, before the rate hikes can take effect and saddle thousands of students with even more crippling debt.
Please stand with the Democratic Governors Association and President Obama. Sign the petition to demand that Congress stop student loan rates from doubling.
