Representation Matters- Change Graduation Policy
The Cherry Creek school district has a very traditional Graduation practice that requires students to wear a traditional graduation uniform (Cap and Gown) and honors cords that students earned. This tradition is an outdated practice that conflicts to the district’s commitment to Equity, Culture, and Community Engagement.
We humbly request for the Cherry Creek School district to allow graduates to decorate their caps and wear graduation regalia that not only represent their academic achievement but also includes a representation of their culture, their identity, their achievements and their dreams. Allowing for this shift to happen doesn’t take away from a prestigious event. In fact, it highlights the event in a way that represents each individual and how they contributed to their school community. Representation matters! Let us celebrate our achievements in a way that represents who we are!
