Why this petition matters

Started by Julia K

GBS has decorated its halls with blue crepe paper on the lights along with blue posters promoting Autism Awareness Month for years. The color blue when associated with autism is a harmful and offensive symbol initially created by the hate group Autism Speaks in 2010. More information on the group is provided here

These decorations in the school haven’t been taken down even after previous requests to the school board and multiple faculty members as of April 11, 2022, and they claim that they’ve only heard one complaint about the issue so far.

We want to bring to attention to the school board that this concern is shared by multiple people and not just a few individuals. Sign this petition and spread it around to spread awareness on why the decorations are an issue and get them replaced with decor that promotes a more positive message for the autistic community.
