Lisa Hirst started this petition to Desmond Swayne and

All of the New Forest District currently has refuse and non-glass recycling collected in single use plastic bags.

If there are approximately 179,600 residents within this area with an average of 3 people per household, this will equate to approximately 58,600 households. Assume a conservative estimate of one black sack and one clear sack of refuse and recycling collected every week from each household.

This equates to approximately 119,700 SINGLE USE BAGS THAT ARE BEING USED EACH WEEK!!

THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE! If an alternative is introduced this will make such a huge difference to our environment and could also save the Council money in the long term by not needing to provide the plastic bags.

An alternative could be similar to the Dorset Council solution who use permanent bins for all refuse and recycling collections.

Once a good number of signatures have been collected I intent to present this to Desmond Swayne (MP for New Forest West), Barry Rickman (Lead Counsellor for New Forest District Council) and also Ann Sevier (Fordingbridge Counsellor for New Forest District Council). I hope this will encourage them to make a change to the way in which our refuse and recycling is collected.

Thank you for your support.
