Repeal the Crosswalk Law in Seattle to promote safety
Why this petition matters

We need to repeal Seattle's crosswalk law. This law states that you must brake for pedestrians at every intersection, specifically unmarked ones. This means a pedestrian may cross on the street, not within sight of cars.
The whole law here: https://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=46.61.235
Not only is this law dangerous for drivers and pedestrians, as it can cause drivers to brake suddenly and pedestrians to be hit, but it causes pedestrians to have unrealistic expectations of traffic in other cities/states/countries.
This is also surprising to out-of-state drivers. Drivers may be stunned and not slow down for clueless pedestrians, possibly leading to more automobile-related deaths. In Elementary School, we learned about bike rules and safe crossing in a unit, and this law contradicts what we teach children in schools.
The argument has been made this will make pedestrians "safer" and while that may be true in some cases, it stuns drivers and sets pedestrians up for terrible crossing habits.
