As a lifelong New Yorker, I have witnessed firsthand the dramatic deterioration of our city's quality of life. Our hard-earned tax dollars and newly imposed fees are not being used to support our fellow New Yorkers who need it most, including the mentally ill and homeless. Instead, an excessive amount of funding is directed towards absorbing illegal migrants who receive free housing, food, medical care and education.

Despite these benefits extended to them at the expense of legal residents' taxes, there is no accountability for crimes committed by these individuals. The sanctuary city policy has inadvertently created a safe haven for criminal activities without any repercussions.

According to the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), in 2017 alone it was estimated that illegal immigration cost U.S taxpayers $116 billion annually after deducting taxes paid by illegal immigrants. A significant portion of this cost is borne by cities like ours that have adopted sanctuary policies.

We are not against immigration; we are against illegal immigration and unaccountable crime. We believe in a fair system where everyone contributes their share and abides by the law.

It's time we prioritize our own citizens' needs over those who disregard our laws. We urge you to repeal NYC's sanctuary city status so that we can redirect resources towards improving living conditions for all law-abiding residents in our beloved city.
