Repeal language in Florida law that removes Citizens policyholders right to representation

As elected officials in Tallahassee discuss how best to reduce the exposure of Citizens Property Insurance while protecting and serving existing policyholders in the event of a damaging event, they should repeal the unfair language included in Senate Bill 408 that unfairly targets Citizens policyholders’ ability to hire their own licensed insurance professional to help them. SB 408, passed by the 2011 Legislature, and now part of Florida Statute 627.351, discourages policyholders covered by the last-resort insurer from hiring a public adjuster. The law actually makes it illegal for a policy holder to pay for professional claims assistance for the initial part of their claim - when they often need help most. Lawmakers should repeal the discriminatory language in Florida Statute 627.351.
