I am on the Board of Directors for Culver Marina Little League which is in Del Rey. Our League was established in 1956, and is on the La Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve. We respect the land we are on by maintaining our fields clean and following current protocols established by an Agreement signed in 2013 by the former Little League President and CDFW representative. We need to revise our Agreement.

Culver Marina Little League has four baseball/softball Fields – see picture. Three are in use by our League which are: Tee-ball, Minors and Majors Field. We also have a Senior Field that is not in use due to restrictions by the CDFW 2013 Agreement.

To quote our website “Since 1956, Culver Marina Little League has been an anchor of the community as a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide a safe, instructional and fun baseball & softball environment for the children of Marina Del Rey (and surrounding areas), ages 4-16.” Unfortunately, we are unable to serve children 13-16 years old due to the Junior/Senior Field restrictions. Many of our kids are at-risk. Our League is a Safe Haven for the youth of our area. We are losing our kids, especially at-risk kids, at such a vulnerable age.

The Del Rey area has a wide range of residents, including the Mar Vista Gardens Housing Projects and surrounding low income area. Culver Marina Little League provides up to 100% registration waiver to our low-income residents, thus providing access to the activity that the kids love in their own community - close to their home. Families do not have the means to go to another League outside the Community. We need to regain access to the Senior Field that is within the CDFW Access Limits and a field we once used. The field is already there.

We need to revise our agreement by CDFW that allows us access to the four fields within the Access Limits. We need approval to have games and practices on this Senior Field.

Mr. Bonham, as previously stated, we have been at our location since 1956. Generations of Del Rey residents have enjoyed the baseball and softball recreational activity on the ecological reserve. The Access Limits have already been established in 2013 Agreement and we do not have plans to go outside those parameters. We just need the four fields. Please help our kids!
