Repair bridges, paving and open state highway 180 in Tennessee
The Issue
Living in the vicinity and depending on State Highway 180 for my daily commute and business operations, I am continually reminded of the urgent need to address the failing infrastructure of our local bridges. The state highway serves as a crucial artery not only for residents like myself but also for numerous local agricultural businesses reliant on smooth and safe transportation routes. Unfortunately, the deterioration of bridges along this route poses threatening challenges to our community's safety and economic vitality.
The bridges on State Highway 180 have shown significant wear and tear over the years. With visible cracks, erosion, and, in some cases, structural weakening, these bridges are unsafe for travel and currently shut down. Reports and local inspections cite them as being overdue for repairs, straining under the weight of daily traffic and failing to meet modern safety standards. This State highway was closed months ago making travel increasingly difficult and increased activity on Stanley Rd and Tibbs-Forked Deer rd which is a much smaller county maintained road and dangerous to meet large equipment. They are not built to handle the traffic a state route is designed to handle.
According to the American Society of Civil Engineers, one in three bridges in the United States requires replacement, and Tennessee is not exempt. Safety is compromised every time these bridges are closed and detoured by thousands of vehicles, including school buses and emergency vehicles essential to our community's wellbeing. The risk posed is not merely hypothetical; it bears real, possible consequences that could jeopardize lives and local businesses.
Immediate action is needed to ensure the safety and economic stability of our beloved community. We urge the Tennessee Department of Transportation and relevant local authorities to prioritize the inspection, repair, and the replacement of the bridges on State Highway 180. By allocating necessary funds and resources to this critical infrastructure, we can safeguard our roads, ensuring they are open, safe, and efficient for all.
Join me in advocating for the safety and vitality of our community. Please sign this petition to demand the urgent repair and opening of the bridges on State Highway 180. Your support is crucial in making our voices heard and securing a safe future for residents and businesses alike.
