Why this petition matters

Started by Maryann Soper

As lovers of our historic environment and proud custodians of our industrial past, we believe, like in many other cases, the majestic limekilns at Bucks Mills in North Devon should be restored to make them safe, rather than partially demolished.

Torridge District Council plan to start the partial demolition in October 2022.

It is important for future generations that these structures explain themselves as much as possible. It is important that it is understood how the people of the past solved the challenges that faced them and these remote, but precious structures were essential to the way of life and the people of the past. It is important that we go to every effort to retain and the historic fabric that we are mere custodians of.

Don't reduce and remove. Retain and explain.
