Make UT a gun-free campus

On August 1st, 1966, Charles Whitman went to the top of the clock tower at the University of Texas at Austin and for an hour and a half sniped faculty and students. As a result, 18 men and women died, including an unborn child. 31 were injured.
More than 50 years later, the Texas state legislature passed the Campus Carry Law that allows students to bring concealed weapons into dorms and classrooms.
This law threatens the protection of university students by encouraging the presence of deadly weapons. The University of Texas should be a place in which faculty and students feel secure among their peers in order to inspire a peaceful setting for discussion and education.
