The viaduct spanning the corner of Western and Pershing is suffering from advanced erosion and poses a serious safety risk to everyone who passes through the intersection. If the bridge were to collapse without anyone on or underneath, a best-case scenario, it would completely cut off a busy and already congested intersection between McKinley Park and Brighton Park.

While Alderman George Cardenas has already addressed the issue on facebook, It is important to communicate the concerns of everyone who passes through this intersection to the following parties: Representative Dan Lipinski, Mayor Lori Lightfoot, and Commissioner of Chicago Dept. of Transportation Gia Biagi. This petition is not intended to cast blame but to bring attention and resolution to a serious issue in the neighborhood.

The best solution is not just the repair of support beams which are visibly bent and broken, but a complete repair of the support structure carrying the tracks.
