Yesterday (05/02/2013) two teenagers were hit trying to cross Ne 4th st in the Renton Highlands in between Monroe Ave and Union Ave.
I live in this area and would really love to see a crosswalk put in where this incident occurred.
There are many businesses as well as apartments that are right in front of where this happened. I believe that putting a crosswalk in the middle of Monroe Ave and Union Ave on Ne 4th St would prevent a tragedy like this from happening again.
On a daily basis I see a countless amount of pedestrians try to race against traffic to get across the street. I have lived here for five years and I know that this is not a new problem. Since the day I moved in I knew an accident like this would happen and I thought a crosswalk needed to be put in. It is 0.5 miles from one crosswalk to the other and on a busy street like this full of apartments and businesses that is far too long of a distance.
I realize that this may be a small matter for some people but for the many, many people that travel this road in vehicles and by foot this is a very important safety matter. Now that this has happened we have two choices: learn a lesson and put in a crosswalk or leave it be and let this happen again.
