On March 28th, 2022 the island of Grand Bahama woke to the sad news that our beloved Ms. D had taken her wings. The sudden departure left many in shock and heartbroken. To recognize the life that she lived we are signing this petition to have East Beach Drive renamed Anita Doherty Way in her honor.

For over 50 plus years she gave tirelessly to so many who passed through corridors of FHS/FAHS/BMES. A Warrior indeed who stood the test of time that her legacy could not be matched. She knew everyone by name and it was impossible to pass her without an encouraging word being said. The countless hours of softball, basketball, netball, soccer, track and field, swimming, debates, Anchor club, Key club, JA, GGYA, Trinagular Meet, Inter Island Sports, Hugh Campbell and the lists goes on you name it she was there. 

For all the many years and hours she spent counseling, scolding, teaching, encouraging, organizing, and planning her focus was always on making a difference in the life of another. Her legacy will live through the school she called home, the Pilot Club that became her sisters, her church that became family, the sporting community that was her comrades.

Because of the larger than life she lived and her being an exemplary leader she demonstrated we sign this petition to have the East Beach Drive renamed Anita Doherty Way. By signing this petition we can ensure that her name and legacy will forever be remember as she looks over the campus that was dear to her heart.
