Woodruff Street in Walden, which used to be one road, has been split into two, being divided now by the Walden-Wallkill Rail Trail. In the past, the Village of Walden has renamed one half of streets (Elm Street and Old Orange Avenue) after prominent names in our community (Millspaugh Court and Lustig Court) to help alleviate confusion, especially in cases of an emergency. Woodruff Street remains unchanged, with one part between Valley Avenue and Ulster Avenue, and the other at the end of Wileman Avenue down to Route 52. This petition is to request that Woodruff Street from 52 to the entrance of the Rail Trail be named in memory of Sam Wright, a great ambassador to Walden for decades before his passing in 2021. Sam is most known worldwide as the voice of Sebastian the Crab in the movie The Little Mermaid, but here in Walden he is known for establishing the Hudson Valley Conservatory, and has had a major impact on thousands of our youth.
