Why this petition matters

Started by Ranga Nambakam

Nalanda University was one the world's most sacred and advanced learning centre for centuries. Then it was annihilated ruthlessly by Bakhtiyar Khilji in the year 1200. For 800 years, it was in ruins.

Till Shinzo Abe came along, initiated and funded the redevelopment of Nalanda. The late Shinzo Abe cared more about the revival of an ancient seat of learning, and did more for it than any Indian.  He had nothing to gain from Nalanda's revival. Yet he did it. Because he genuinely cared. Today, we have a massive university in Rajgir.

I don't know if it will ever reach the glory of the old Nalanda University but a beginning has been made.  And it was all because of the late Shinzo Abe. It took the efforts of a Japanese PM Shinzo Abe to revive an Indian university!

The junction where one has to change train to Rajgir is called Bakhtiyarpur, named after the general who wiped the old Nalanda off the map.

Ideally that junction should be named after Shinzo Abe.

Because he was instrumental in the revival of Nalanda University.
Because you name things after people who create them. And Abe gave us back an invaluable piece of our own history, which we had consigned to the dustbin.
