Why this petition matters

Started by Dorian Wesley

As you noticed, our beloved Queen tragically passed away at the age of 96 on Thursday, and to which her namesake, Queen Elizabeth District High School, has seen many students come and go over the years.

Yes, some say the new school's name is fitting for the modern era, but I can't entirely agree because Queen Elizabeth II was not some Queen from the Medieval Ages. Still, she oversaw the last century and passed into the modern era. I am not a monarchist, but I thought it'd be distasteful to change the school's name, as it's pretty fitting and memorable.

Many others, including me, are calling on Keewatin-Patricia District School Board to rename Sioux North to Queen Elizabeth District High School, remembering the namesake of our beloved Queen Elizabeth II. It is the right moment to do this, as her name is being featured throughout news outlets worldwide in a tragic sense.

If the Board ignores this petition, I'll continue to peacefully demand a local referendum nonstop until all the residents of Sioux Lookout vote yes to renaming our local high school. I will continue to contact my MP and the Minister of Education to pressure them to help.
