When the school board announced that Bellevue would be receiving a new High School in our community to replace Hillwood, they gave  the community the option to name the new school. The community spoke and the vote was for the school to be named Bellevue High School. Instead the school board went against the wishes of the community and decided to name the school after James Lawson. (We mean no disrespect to Mr. Lawson or his accomplishments and actions as a civil rights leader). We believe that the name has nothing to do with the community as Mr Lawson has no connection to Bellevue and surrounding area. We also wish for our choice to be recognized as in the vote for the school name Bellevue High School was the winner.
