Now, realistically we all know that global political relations and history can be a dicey topic...most shrouded in the rags of colonialism and duplicitous regimes. Today, I bring to the table the dilemma of the Haitian people.

The ancestors of the Haitian people rallied together to revolt against the oppression of France in the 18th and 19th century. Desperately freeing themselves from bondage and genocide through scorched earth policy after over a decade of strategic alliances with empires such as Spain, Britain and even the post revolutionary France proved to be a mistake. This history runs deep and is extremely complex for even the expert historians but nonetheless the facts are that the ancestors of the Haitian people and their revolutionary leaders were used as pawns in the chess wars of Britain, Spain and France.

Post revolution, in 1825 French officials returned to the shores of Haiti with warships and an ultimatum ... either the young nation pay indemnity payments (which were eventually handled by Citibank) to France and be recognized as a sovereign nation or France and most certainly other European empires come together to destroy Haiti. See the thing is, Haiti didn’t just free itself but decided to go on a world tour aiding in the revolts of many oppressed peoples in Venezuela, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guyana and many more... the Venezuelan flag was literally first drafted in Haiti!

Centuries filled of demonization, occupation, political coups, isolation, elaborate brainwashing campaigns and puppet regimes... Haiti has always received the short end of the stick. Jubilee Campaigns, HIPC and Odious Debt cancellations already taken into account.. we believe that the descendants of these 18th-19th century Haitians deserve reparations in the form of monetary remuneration, tax credits, free education and healthcare no matter where they are in the world. What’s estimated today at just about $30,000,000,000 can be dispersed by these Entities  combined to every verifiable Haitian descendant within a timespan of 30 years for the final payment to be made to an individual/household. No more money should be funded to the government of Haiti as it has proven for whatever reason(I won’t presume) to be incapable of management.

Again, I understand this is complicated but facts are facts and cannot be swept under the rug anymore. The new governments all over the world have taken the stance of being inclusive and dedicated to equality and most importantly equity...let this be the first debt that’s settled as I’m sure it’s the oldest.
