Why this petition matters

Started by Sam Rolls

This petition is for local stakeholders to highlight the visual impact of unsightly electricity cables that run across the fields below Elsted Hangar and Rook Clift, and petition Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) to move these overhead cables underground.

The villages of Elsted and Treyford, and the popular footpaths and bridleways that surround them, are situated in the heart of the South Downs national park and are fortunate enough to enjoy some picturesque views of the Downs. These views are impaired by the presence of overhead electricity cables that stain the otherwise unblemished traditional rural landscape.

SSEN are able to take advantage of funding in order to bury cables in national parks and areas of outstanding natural beauty where doing so will clearly improve the visual impact on the landscape. SSEN have successfully removed cables in Cocking as well as other villages in the South Downs National Park (SDNP).

If you are a local stakeholder and feel that removing these overhead cables would improve the spectacular landscape by providing uninterrupted views, I'd be grateful if you could please add your signature so we can take this to SSEN and the South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA) for evaluation.
