This is a petition to remove the blue table and seating area next to the basketball court in Lye Fields Park.

This seating area encourages gatherings, which leads to anti-social behaviour and significant littering (smashed glass, broken branches, chicken bones and packaging from KFC, McDonalds, Tesco etc., drug / alcohol abuse) that makes the basketball court unusable for the young people of Yate who do wish to use the basketball court for sporting purposes and causes harm to the dogs that walk in the park.

In the last month alone, residents who live in close proximity to the park have had to speak to youths causing damage to the basketball court, brush up broken glass following episodes of antisocial behaviour, and put canisters used for balloons in the bin. This is in addition to regular litter picking that is required in this area more than any other area of the park. Many residents feel threatened / intimidated when there is antisocial behaviour happening due to the blue seating area and have had to call the police to intervene on more than one occasion.

We believe that if there was not a covered seating and table area next to the basketball court that antisocial behaviour and littering would reduce significantly, which would make the park a safer place for people and pets using the park.
