Roy Carson started this petition to Cllr. Kevin Guy (Bath and Northeast Somerset Council)

I’m campaigning for the temporary 18Tonne weight limit on Cleveland Bridge to be made permanent. This is the only measure that will significantly reduce Pollution and Congestion for Bath's residents and their children ........ instantly.
In October 2020 BANES Planning Committee approved the strengthening of the bridge to welcome 44Tonne HGV's across it and back into Bath's streets again. The Council will receive £3.5m as a consequence of that decision. A very bad decision, for both the Council and for Bath’s residents and their children.
Those HGVs have been responsible for incredibly high levels of pollution along the congested Bathwick and London Rd streets. The temporary 18 Tonne weight limit  has massively alleviated that problem, yet they are scrapping it, and ramping it up to 44 Tonnes again. Welcome back NO2, CO2, PM2.5 and noise.
Consequently, the air pollution in those streets will surge once again, and residents can look forward to another miserable, congested & polluted summer.
Bath’s Residents and children expected BANES’s protection from this insidious and unnecessary pollution. Retaining the 18 Tonne weight limit on Cleveland Bridge will  achieve that - cycle lanes, LTNs and eScooters will not. BANES must not condemn its Residents to premature deaths from respiratory and cardiac disease - why, because it promised it would "..improve peoples' lives",     not cut them short.
