Orange County is the only district in the state of North Carolina to still require musicians to sit six feet apart during instrumental performances. This affects the performance in multiple aspects, and also makes rehearsing in classrooms significantly more difficult. Insufficient spacing is also another effect of this mandate.

  I am a student in a high school in Orange County, and I'm also in one of the band programs here. From experience I can confidently say that it is detrimental to the band program to allow this mandate to continue to exist.
