The amazing upset with Rich Strike winning the Kentucky Derby was an incredible moment in horse racing history, reminding us of the Great Secretariat! After the race, we all were shocked by the behavior of the pony escort rider, punching Rich Strike in the face. I’ve had horses for 28 years and a pretty bullish pony and NEVER have I EVER found it necessary or appropriate to punch my horses in the face. This was unnecessary and cruel - regardless of Rich Strike biting the escort horse or not. This is a disgrace and the escort should be banned from escorting in all future races. The punch thrown was 1000% unnecessary and uncalled for!
