My name is Emma Tate. I played sousaphone in the University of Washington Husky Marching Band for four years. I met some of my best friends in that band and made many great memories. But on June 14, 2017 I was raped by a fellow band member. My roommate. Someone I had considered a good friend. Now the band is hiring him as operations director. His name is Christian Read.

I was asleep when it started. I became suicidal in the months following. I've spent a lot of time and money on therapy since. 

I'm not the only girl he has sexually assaulted. Not even the only one in the marching band. 

I and other band alumni are working with UW to convince them Christian Read is unfit for the position and should not be representing the university or band. His well established patterns of harassment and assault against women should bar him from holding any position of authority like this. This petition's goal is to put public pressure on UW's athletic administration and HR to remove him from his position before he has the chance to hurt anyone else.
