REGARDING ALLEGED COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY TIE-UP
A recent YouTube video by Shri. Rajiv Malhotra has been circulating on social media, containing several false statements about Shri V.R. Gowrishankar, the former CEO and administrator of Sri Sringeri Mutt.
Key inaccuracies stand out in this YouTube video.
• The claim of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Sri Sringeri Mutt and Columbia University.
• The allegation that Shri V.R. Gowrishankar signed this MOU on behalf of Sri Sringeri Mutt.
• The assertion that His Holiness was unaware of these activities.
As dedicated stakeholders and long-term devotees of the Mutt, we are deeply troubled by these misleading claims made by Shri. Rajiv Malhotra in his YouTube video, which is being widely shared on WhatsApp. As concerned devotees we tried to gather further information regarding this MOU between Sri Sringeri Mutt and Columbia University. We were shocked to learn that:
• Sri Sringeri Mutt has never been in contact with anyone at Columbia University. Therefore, the notion that such an MOU existed is entirely false.
• The video’s claims about Shri V.R. Gowrishankar’s involvement in signing a non-existent MOU are misleading.
• Our Mutt, with a history spanning 12 centuries, operates under the guidance and approval of His Holiness.
• It is inconceivable that any major decision, such as entering an MOU, could occur without His Holiness’s knowledge and blessing. Therefore, the claim that His Holiness was kept in the dark is patently false.
• Shri. Rajiv Malhotra, known for his public speaking, has made a video filled with dramatic exaggerations and inaccuracies.
• He has not provided clear details about the events or individuals involved. This lack of clarity raises doubts about the credibility of his statements, suggesting the video aims to garner publicity rather than present the truth.
The alleged MOU, purportedly signed a decade ago, has surfaced only after Shri V.R. Gowrishankar’s retirement. As devotees, we view this video with suspicion, believing that it may be an attempt by certain individuals to create unwarranted issues and cast our Mutt in a negative light.
We also reached out to our reliable contacts to get further clarifications regarding these allegations. The content of this video appears to tarnish the reputation of His Holiness and our esteemed Mutt.
