Methodist Ladies’ College’s decision to enforce programs like Classwize and Linewize has taken away students’ independence and created an environment of unnecessary control. Instead of fostering trust and responsibility, these systems constantly monitor and restrict students, making it harder to learn freely and build digital responsibility on their own. While the school claims these tools are for “safety,” they only tighten restrictions and limit opportunities for growth. Principal Ms. Shea has done little to change the school for the better—her choices reflect more control rather than progress, ignoring the voices of students who want a supportive and open learning environment, such as the new timetable as well. Removing Classwize and Linewize would be the first step toward giving students back their freedom and proving that MLC truly values education, not surveillance.
