A man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl was released from the Edmonton Remand Centre Wednesday; back into the community where the initial crime was committed.  It is believed that the accused, Wade Stene, has been released from the Edmonton Remand centre into house-arrest while he awaits trial and sentencing.  Currently, there is no firm date set for trial or sentencing.

Wade will be residing at a home his mother is renting in the Edmonton neighbourhood of McQueen. The rental home is approximately 190 meters from the permanent residence of the victim of the assault and kidnapping.

There are scores of families with young children living in McQueen, multiple playgrounds, and several elementary, Jr. High, and High-Schools.

This petition seeks to have the accused, Wade Stene relocated from the community of McQueen, on the grounds that his proximity may perpetuate psychological and emotional trauma for the victim, and that his proximity undermines the public's sense of safety and security for the children in the neighbourhood at large.

EDMONTON -- Police are issuing a warning after a man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl was released from the Edmonton Remand Centre Wednesday.

Wade Stene, 37, will be residing in the McQueen neighbourhood in Edmonton.

EPS say on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 a girl was walking home in the area of 144 Street and 110 Avenue, when a strange car drove up to her. Police say Stene allegedly pulled her into his vehicle, sexually assaulted her and dropped her off nearby.

Stene and the young girl were not known to each other.

EPS believe Stene poses a significant risk to the public, particularly to people under the age of 16.

Stene is described as white, 6'2", 150 pounds, with short brown hair and hazel eyes. Police say he may alternate between being clean shaven and having facial hair.

Police say Stene is released on the following conditions:

 - required to wear a tracking ankle bracelet
 - must remain at his residence 24-hours a day
 - any travel for medical and legal appointments must be pre-approved by his bail supervisor
 - no contact with anyone under age 18
 - refrain from purchase, possession, use or consumption of alcohol and/or any  - non-prescribed controlled substances

EPS said they released the warning because they believe it’s in the public interest.

The allegations against Stene have not yet been proven or tested in court.

Anyone with information regarding a violation of the conditions is asked to contact EPS at 780-423-4567.
