MPs are meant to be servants of the public, upholding high standards of ethics and morality, the more so when holding ministerial positions. Gavin Williamson was sacked twice for incompetence and for being a risk to national security, yet somehow receives one of the highest honours in the land. He was then reappointed to a Cabinet position by PM Rishi Sunak, despite there being evidence that Williamson had breached the ministerial code with his bullying, intimidatory and harassing behaviours, including expletive-laden emails to colleagues in parliament.

The honours system is brought into dispute when such appalling behaviour appears to be rewarded rather than sanctioned and tarnishes the reputation of those who have received honours for genuine public service.

Gavin Williamson should never have been knighted and, in the light of mounting evidence of his disreputable behaviour, should be stripped of his knighthood.
