Remove Ephraim McDowell's Statue from the Kentucky Capitol Rotunda
Ephraim McDowell lived in Danville, KY and was known as the "Father of the Ovariotomy".
Dr. McDowell wrote an article describing the surgeries he did. Dr. McDowell article was discredited due to that fact that almost all the women he practiced on were Black, and performed these exploratory procedures without consent. Dr. Ephraim McDowell cut open these women as if they were animals with no rights.
McDowell continued his practices, except now they were all on Black women in the Danville, KY area. These women were tortured for over a decade. To make this even worse, these exploratory procedures were performed with no anesthesia.
Dr. Ephraim McDowell's statue now stands in the rotunda at the Kentucky Capitol. We would like to petition to remove this statue.
