Why this petition matters

Started by Rosa Leon

Yesterday I was approached by a student from Ole Miss Law, who wishes to remain anonymous in fear of retaliation, to circulate the following message

A student at the University of Mississippi School of Law who posted racist and homophobic tweets was elected as SBA President in the Spring of 2022, prior to the student population being made aware of his racist and homophobic views. Outraged by the election, LGBTQ+, Black, and Brown students sought to have him either removed or pressured to step down. A town hall was held at the law school, which Chauncey did not attend. Chauncey refuses to acknowledge the harm he is causing within the Law School, and administration state that their hands are tied. The current SBA bylaws do not include an impeachment process and Chauncey has vehemently denied to support amending the bylaws in fear that he will be impeached for his actions. It is clear that he is well aware that the students do not want him in the seat. There is turmoil within the law school, of which Chauncey cares little about to fix. His selfishness in refusing to step down speaks volumes of his character. Below is a letter from a current law student at the school. Please sign this petition to have Chauncey removed as SBA President.
